Flavoured lube can make intimacy feel more playful, but the flavour printed on the bottle should not be the only thing you check. The base formula, product label, condom and toy compatibility, ingredients and intended use all matter. What is flavoured lube?

Flavoured lubricant is a personal lubricant with added flavour. Many flavoured options use a water-based formula, which is easy to clean and widely used with condoms and intimate toys. Compatibility still depends on the individual product, so check the current packaging rather than assuming every water-based or flavoured formula works in exactly the same way.

A flavour name also does not automatically mean that a product is food, edible in unlimited amounts or intended to be swallowed. Only allow oral contact when the current label and directions specifically permit it. If the label is unclear, use the product only for its stated purpose.

How to choose a flavoured lubricant

1. Check the base formula

Water-based lube is the most flexible starting point for many shoppers. It rinses away with water, usually leaves less residue than heavier formulas and is commonly compatible with a broad range of condoms and toys. If you use latex condoms, follow the lubricant and condom instructions. Public-health guidance recommends water-based or silicone-based lubricants to help reduce condom breakage; oil-based products can damage latex condoms. 2. Read the compatibility wording

Look for explicit wording such as “condom compatible”, “latex compatible” or “toy friendly”. Do not treat “water-based” as a substitute for reading the label, especially if a toy manufacturer specifies which lubricants can be used with its material.

3. Decide whether sugar-free matters to you

Several products in the Skins fruit range are described by the supplier as sugar-free. That can be a useful comparison point, but sugar-free does not guarantee that a formula will suit every body. Review the ingredient list and stop using any product that causes irritation or discomfort.

4. Choose a flavour you will actually enjoy

If you are uncertain, patch-test on a small, discreet area of the toy or contact the manufacturer before applying it widely.

How much should you use?

Start with a small amount and add more when needed. Water-based formulas can begin to feel tacky as water evaporates; depending on the individual product, adding a little more lube or a few drops of water may refresh the glide. Follow the packaging directions and wash the product away after use as instructed.
